For Thanksgiving we are blessed to have lots of family showing up for the event this year! I can't wait! I'm looking for all of your input on what Thanksgiving means to you. What traditions, food and such that just "say" Thanksgiving to you. For me it's always a massive dinner around the table with extended family, eating til you think you're gonna burst and falling asleep in front of a football game (the Cowboys, of course!). It's also the day that kicks off the holiday season for me. As a kid I'd go through the Christmas catalog and mark all of the things I wanted. Whenever I'd try to show them to my Dad he'd say uh-huh a lot but whenever I looked up he was more than likely to be watching TV instead of looking at the hundredth thing I wanted to see under the tree. :)
Ok, so tell me about your perfect Thanksgiving... I'm dying to know!
Sounds like you guys have a fun Thanksgiving planned. Our family has gotten so big that we rent a grange hall in Dufur to hold us all. It is OK, but personally, I'd rather have a smaller, more intimate one. Although the good thing about it is there is no television out there, so we all play games and interact instead. Some of us even play instruments and jam together, I love that part!
ReplyDeleteyou gave me an idea, jackie. maybe i'll have those brazil boys over for a bit of a concert when our family is here. i simply love hearing them play! you should teach me how to play the fiddle, jackie... i have one, you know... i sound like a second grader on it, but i have one! :)
ReplyDeleteMy idea of a great Thanksgiving is a bit like yours. All the traditional yummy fattening foods. I always put on Christmas music for the first time of the season while we cook. (I have some CDs with various traditional songs, then Mallory's pick is Hillary Duff's versions) Then of course eating way too much. "Little ones" always prevent me from taking the nap I would love afterwards. But most of all Thankful for my family and another day that we are all together. Hope yours is wonderful. The winter photo (The Blues right?) on your heading is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe mountain in the photo is Mount Fanny (Jackie set me straight on that!) That is the view from our front porch. We are blessed. I love that Mallory chooses Hillary Duff! We have a cassette that has songs from Madonna and Run DMC! :) This may be something we'll have to try!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to teach you fiddle, although I probably sound like a second grader, too, since I haven't been practicing since I had Hailey.
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking about this and I think that sometimes when we get together I could make a scratchy noise on my fiddle. :) I think it needs a little repair, tho. Can't remember. I'll look at it and we'll plan it! :)
